A young Pittsburgh area hockey player walks into the stands to fight during a game

The video shows a young hockey player from the Shaler area entering the stands at the Alpha Ice Complex in Harmar to fight in a game on Thursday night. This happened during the Shaler Area game against Greater Latrobe around 11 p.m. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League said the player involved will be suspended for his part in the fight, but it’s unclear how long that suspension will last. The video shows hockey player Shaler entering the stands and fighting with a small group of people. It is unclear whether those involved were parents, students or both. Several people can be seen jumping into it, trying to break it. The PIHL said there will be a formal hearing to consider this fight, but a date has yet to be set. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 has reached out to the Shaler Area School District for comment. The district said in part that it is “conducting a thorough investigation and will follow its code of conduct with the intent of ensuring that full disciplinary action is taken for those involved in the altercation.” Read the district’s full statement below: “Our administration has been fully notified of the incident which occurred at a hockey game. The Shaler Area School District represents a commitment to the highest level of spirit sportsmanship for athletes, coaches and spectators at all District events.We are thoroughly investigating and will follow our Code of Conduct with the intent of ensuring that full disciplinary action is followed for those involved in this altercation.” – Superintendent Sean Aiken. Harmar Township Police also confirmed that officers responded to Alpha Ice that night around 11 p.m. and filed a report. It is unclear whether charges will be brought against those involved. Below is the full statement released by the PIHL Executive Committee. “PIHL is aware of an incident that occurred during the varsity game between the Shaler Titans and the Greater Latrobe Wildcats on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Alpha Ice Complex. PIHL is currently investigating allegations of inappropriate behavior that occurred in the stands involving spectators and players. PIHL is in contact with school officials, coaches, players, referees, game officials and members of the hockey community to determine the facts related to the incident and will meet to assess what type of disciplinary action is warranted Providing a safe environment for our member organizations and players to participate in interscholastic hockey will always be our primary goal Any action by spectators or players that compromises or impinges on the ability of our players to participate in interscholastic hockey interscholastic hockey in a safe environment will not be tolerated.”
