Battlefords Hockey Scores Feb 4-6

NORTH BATTLEFORD – Here’s a look at some action from Battlefords and area teams over the past weekend:

The regular season is over and the playoffs are now underway in the Sask Prairie Hockey League. In the opening matches of their series, the Meota Combines beat Spiritwood 13-1 at North Battleford on Sunday. The Combines were led by Jayden Nachtegaele with four goals and Calvin Koczka with three.

In other action, Perdue lost to Turtleford 4-0 on Saturday, and Radisson beat Maymont 7-3 at Radisson on Sunday. All three series resume with games Friday night at Spiritwood, Perdue and Radisson. In the other series, Battleford takes on Maymont.

This Saturday and Sunday, the Battlefords AAA Stars picked up two much-loved wins over the Tisdale Trojans on the road in the U18 men’s.

The first was a 4-2 win on Saturday night. The Stars got goals from Treycen Wuttunee and Zane Normand in the first period. Tisdale came back to tie the game in the third period, but Rhett Briltz gave the Stars the lead and then Normand’s second of the game into an empty net sealed the win.

Sunday afternoon, the Stars again beat the Trojans 6-4. Briltz opened the scoring and the Stars got goals from Jakin Lawrence, Wuttunee, Normand, Kobie Anderson and Dawson Gerbing en route to victory.

Those wins put the Stars within five points of eighth place in the league standings. The Stars’ next game is Friday, at home against Yorkton.

On the U18 women’s side, the Battlefords Sharks have a busy schedule at home. They are back in action Thursday at home against Prince Albert and Saturday and Sunday at home against Regina.
