BOK Center and Tulsa Oilers host first-ever professional women’s hockey game in Oklahoma

It was a special day at the BOK Center as the Tulsa Oilers hosted the first-ever women’s professional hockey game at the arena. The Minnesota Whitecaps and Buffalo Beauts called Tulsa home for the first time.

For the first time ever, professional women’s ice hockey has called Oklahoma home. Seven goals found the back of the net in the afternoon, but it was more than hockey. For the page family, it was a chance for their daughter to see women on the ice for the first time.

“It’s fabulous. I’m really happy to be here to see this and to bring my daughter. She was actually a figure skater as a child so hopefully this inspires her,” said Rebekah Page , professional female hockey fan.

Saturday was about promoting women’s hockey and for Tulsa owner Andy Scurto, who brought the Minnesota white caps and Buffalo Beauts to Green Country, believes Saturday’s game was a complete success for the 2,000-plus fans who got to see women’s hockey. for the first time here at the BOK Center.

“Once again, I skated on the ice, I didn’t expect there to be so many people. Probably one of the biggest crowds I’ve ever played in (in front). Hockey in general is expanding and everyone is excited about it and that was cool,” Buffalo Beauts goaltender Caty Flagg said.

Scurto thinks Saturday’s game will be just one of many hockey events coming to Tulsa and within two years we might even see outdoor hockey at OneOk Field.

“It’s two seasons away, to be honest I don’t know the exact dates they’re working on but you’ll see something. It’s definitely gonna happen. I love challenging new ideas and new things you’ll see me doing all of them kind of crazy things sometimes they don’t work but that’s just who I am. I want to play an outdoor game,” Tulsa Oilers owner Andy Scurto said.
