The best Cariboo hockey players will have the chance to return to their roots as the dates for their annual outdoor games have been set. Both teams will play an outdoor game at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena in late January 2022.
The Cariboo Cougars U18AAA team will play on Saturday January 23rd and the Northern Capitals U18AAA team will play on Sunday January 24th at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena located in Fort St. James on Nak’azdli Whut’en territory.
Both teams will play double matches this weekend, with half of the indoor games played at Vanderhoof. It’s the only time this season the teams will play home games outside of Prince George.
The Northern Capitals will face the Fraser Valley Rush (at Vanderhoof on January 23) and the Cariboo Cougars will face the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds (at Vanderhoof on January 22).
“For many players this year will be their first time in the outdoor game, the excitement is already in the air,” read an email from Cariboo Hockey.
“This weekend is the most anticipated games of our entire program, many hours spent by our volunteers to make this possible.”
The northern capitals hosted an outdoor game for the first time in 2020, with plans to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic for a 2021 edition.
