Hampshire regional field hockey takes first varsity victory

For the first time as a college program, the Hampshire regional field hockey team entered the winning column on Tuesday.

The Raiders scored a fourth-quarter tally that broke a 1-1 tie, sending the club to a 2-1 victory over Athol in a County League game at O’Brien Field in Athol.

Hampshire Regional’s Chloe Moynihan and Jaiden Kudelka scored in the victory. The Raiders have improved to 1-2-1 this season.

Smith Academy 3, Turners Falls 0 – The unbeaten streak continued for the Falcons on Tuesday. Makena Valentine scored two goals in Smith Academy’s 3-0 Valley League win at Hatfield.

Charlotte Hennings also scored in the win, as Smith (4-0-1) led 2-0 at halftime before scoring an insurance score in the third quarter. Crista Kemp recorded an assist and Hadley Szynal made two saves to start the shutout.

Pioneer 1, Holyoke 0 – Kelseigh Sargent scored an unassisted goal to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 victory over the Purple Knights in a County League game at Northfield on Tuesday.

East Longmeadow 5, Northampton 1 – Charlotte Ribe tied the score for the Blue Devils in the second quarter, but the Spartans exploded for four goals in the second half.

Barmier Lagier added the assist.

Emily Lippiello of Northampton saved eight shots.

Belchertown 2, Amherst 0 – Elyssa Wrona (assist) and Bella Cebula found their way to the net in the fourth quarter for the Orioles. Abigail Olden assisted Wrona’s goal.

McKenzie Schreyer of Amherst repelled seven shots.

Boys football

Northampton 3, Holyoke 1 – Tied 1-1 at halftime, Northampton put a pair in the back of the net in the final 40 minutes to claim a 3-1 win over Holyoke on Tuesday at Roberts Field.

Zeke Kimball scored the final winning goal in the 49th minute with an assist from Jimmy Galvin to make it 2-1, then Ryland Breen added some confidence with a 62nd-minute strike from Baruani Ngoy.

Holyoke’s Nelson Figueroa scored in the 23rd minute over Braeden Lamirande to tie 1-1 after Northampton’s Jackson Carlino opened the scoring in the 15th minute.

Blue Devils goaltender Alex Caldanaro made four saves while Knights goaltender Keegan Kukucka stopped six shots.

Hampshire 7, Center 0 – Aidan Miklasiewicz scored a hat-trick with an assist at Westhampton. Mike Thibault added two goals. Dan Martin and Tadhg Cassidy each scored once. Ayden St. Martin and Matt Sloan each provided an assist.

Girls football

Frontier 3, Renaissance 0 – Two goals from Maddie Bennett propelled the Redhawks to a clear 3-0 victory over Renaissance in a Pioneer North game on Tuesday at Herlihy Park.

Frontier, who scored all of his goals in the first half, led Renaissance by a 17-2 margin. Bennett scored twice in the first 40 minutes of the game, with assists for Anna Petrin and Josie Fosnot. Caroline Crocker scored a 23-minute goal and Bennett was credited with the assist to give her a hand in all three counts.

CC Green (zero saves) and Kaitlyn Mackin (two saves) served as goalie for Frontier in the win.

St. Mary’s 2, Smith Academy 0 – Emma Goodreau scored both goals for the Saints in the first half of the team’s 2-0 win over Smith Academy in a Bi-County game on Tuesday at Westfield.

Falcons goalie Maddie Bell stopped five shots.

Hampden Charter 5, bridge 0 – Four goals from Angalece Quinones sent Hampden Charter past the Gators on Tuesday.

Gateway goalie Olivia Kanner made 18 saves.

Drury 2, Hopkins Academy 0 – The Blue Devils have scored a goal in each half at home.

Cassidy Fyden made 13 saves for the Golden Hawks.

Northampton 3, Southwick 3 – Sofia Ciaglo, Teagan McDonald and Kendall Reynolds each found their way into the net once in the second half for the Blue Devils.

Northampton’s Roxana Clauson, Kaiah Gregory and Katelyn Kozlakowski each contributed an assist.

Amherst 3, Holyoke 0 – Selma Keochakian ignited a three-goal first half for the Hurricanes with a 30-yard free kick in the sixth minute.

Jaeden Case and Madeline Hockman also scored one goal apiece. Eleanor Jacoby and Addison Lepak each provided an assist.

Lily Gleason kept the clean sheet with four saves.

Holyoke’s Marlandie Pierre repelled nine shots.

Easthampton 2, Sabis 1 – Caitlin Padeck and Ana Growhowski managed to take the Eagles to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

Abigail McClaflin assisted on one of Easthampton’s two goals.

Girls volleyball

Easthampton 3, Chicopee 1 – Delima Fournier distributed 19 assists and Skylar Raskevitz tallied 18 digs to help the Eagles score an 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-13 victory over Chicopee on Tuesday night.

Lanah Carson’s six kills punctuated Easthampton’s offensive attack (5-1), while Maggie Barr managed five kills. Rina Damon and Kaelin Damon each added three kills, and the team totaled 13 aces on the night.

Center 3, Holyoke 0 – Erin Gauthier had 13 digs and Alysha Izquierdo (three kills) had 12 for the Purple Knights, who lost 25-17, 25-12, 25-16.

Alicia Rivera distributed eight assists.

Jaqueline Jourdain blocked three shots, made two kills and hit two aces.
