Matt Zandi ’21, G’22 named NESCAC Male Hockey Player of the Week

MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut. – Defenseman graduated in Wesleyan men’s hockey Matt Zandi ’21, G’22 was announced as NESCAC Player of the Week this afternoon. This news brings to an end what has been a thrilling weekend sweep at home for the Cardinals with victories to come over Hamilton and Amherst, both of which went down to each other and were each decided by a score of 4-3. .
In the weekend’s NESCAC sweep, Zandi scored five points, including two goals and three assists combined in the two games. Zandi came into the weekend without a career multi-point game, but the graduate student managed two straight more than 2-point outings to lead the Cardinals. He started with a goal and an assist in the 4-3 overtime win over Hamilton on Friday night as he scored the tying goal in the second period and subsequently assisted the Come on Uemura ’23 OT winner of the match. He followed up with a three-point night as he scored the game-winner with just under four minutes to go while helping on two more Wesleyan goals to end the weekend by five points for the blue liner.
Zandi and the Cardinals (3-3-1, 3-0-1 NESCAC) are looking to build on their momentum with a non-conference showdown Friday night at Plymouth State with a face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
