Midland Dow wins MHSAA State Championship Hockey Game

MIDLAND, Mich. (WNEM) – The Midland Dow Chargers dominate Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 2-0 in the MHSAA Division 3 State Championship game.

“I’m so happy for the boys. We are a family, do everything together. I am speechless,” said Midland team captain Ryan Stadelmaier.

In the 2nd period, there was no score, but Saint Mary’s knocked on the door. Kyle Kavc with the rocket but Collin Lemanski from Dow who stopped him dead.

Later in the 2nd and the eaglets threaten again, but Lemanski comes in strong as he stops two shots from close range. He would stop all 32 shots he faced.

And then late in the 3rd Dow scored the first goal of the game. Chaden Chritz goes wild and his shot is saved, but it’s just Nolan Sanders pushing it home and Dow had a 1-0 lead with 2:30 to play.

St. Mary’s draws in the keeper and applies pressure. But that’s when Ryan Pomranky leaves the boards and heads for the net to seal the game with 17 seconds left.

“The first in the program’s history, so it’s special. It hasn’t been done for 50 years. It’s good to do that,” Lemanski said.

“I would have been just as proud of those boys if we had come out the other side. They worked hard. That’s good,” Dow head coach Dick Blasy said. I’m not going to lie, it’s really great.”
