Roanoke falls in Fayetteville during SPHL hockey game

ROANOKE, Virginia. – The Rail Yard Dawgs rallied with a strong third period, but couldn’t tie against Fayetteville in the dying moments in a 3-2 loss at the Berglund Center on Thursday night. CJ Stubbs scored both goals for the Dawgs and Nick Devito added a pair of assists.
The first period was even throughout the first five minutes, until Roanoke was shorthanded for the first time at 5:39. Although the Dawgs killed the penalty, they lost their footing in the contest and the Marksmen finally opened the scoring at 16:37 on a Shane Bednard rebound. Fayetteville led 1-0 at the first intermission.
Roanoke rocketed out in the second period and tied the game at 5:06 on a Stubbs rebound. The Dawgs nearly equalized moments later, but Fayetteville’s goal was overturned just as the puck was about to cross the goal line. Instead, Roanoke won a power play at 10:24, but conceded a shorthanded goal to Taylor McCloy on a quick counterattack to go down 3-1.
