Romeo beats Eisenhower in MAC Red hockey game – Macomb Daily

Twenty-one seconds into the second half gave Romeo the result he wanted.
Collin Martin’s goal broke a 2-2 tie with 1:17 left in the second period and Drew Basha scored 21 seconds later on Friday night to spur the host Bulldogs to a 4-2 win over Eisenhower and a split of both teams Macomb Area Conference Red Division Hockey Games.
“It was our rivalry,” said Spencer Groszkiewicz, who scored the Bulldogs’ first and second goals. “We lost the first time we faced them. We wanted to win this time.
Dominic Riggio scored in the first period and Andrew Granata scored a shorthanded goal in the second for Eisenhower.
All of Romeo’s goals have been scored with the teams evenly matched.
“Romeo brought it to us,” Eisenhower’s trainer Bob Hall said. “They came out with energy. They simplified the game. They put the puck on the net and our guys didn’t do anything easy.
“Our guys didn’t budge, which is our asset. We fought the puck all game instead of just playing. We didn’t play our game. Hats off to Romeo. They took us out of our game. It just wasn’t our night.
Dillan Basha had two assists for Romeo. Nick Wilkinson, Danny Beauchamp, Cullen Jones, Vincent Ruffino and Alessandro Evangelista had one each. Jake VanCamp was the winning goaltender.
“I feel really good after that one,” Romeo assistant coach Matt Burke said. “They’re a good team, so I’m going to get this win.
“We needed this one. It was team work. Everyone played well. »
Burke was surprised by the Bulldogs’ goals late in the second period.
“It happened so fast,” he said. “We scored a goal, then we scored again. I think we played well in all three periods.
