The Erie Otters Host a Friendly Sensory Hockey Game

The Erie Otters hosted a Sensory Friendly on March 27 in part with the Autism Society of Northwest Pennsylvania.

More than 150 families within the organization watched the game with special accommodations for the game, making the event autism-friendly.

According to Autism Society executive director Tish Bartlett, the Otters have turned off the goal post alarm siren, lowered the music volume, made fewer announcements and created a rest area for families.

At the end of the game, the Otters held an auction with practice jerseys. Proceeds from this auction benefited the Autism Society.

“For our individuals and families living with autism, to come into the community and have the opportunity to experience a new place or enjoy it in a sensory environment they know and love,” said Tish Bartlett, Executive Director of the Autism Society of the Northwest AP.

The next Autism Society event will be the Autism Walk on April 23rd.
