The University of Minnesota’s Crookston Men’s Club (UMC) hockey team saw their first two weekends of the season postponed and they were eager to kick off the 2021-2022 season and scored just over two minutes after the game started and added three in the third period in a 4-2 victory over the University of Jamestown at the Crookston Sports Center. UMC’s Josh Pieper (Sr-Baudette) scored the only goal of the first period and it was 1-0 after 20 minutes. Jimmies Braxton Nies scored the only goal of the second period to make it a 1-1 after two periods with UMC being outscored 31-17, but Golden Eagles goalie Braden Schmitz (Fresh-Devils Lake, ND) got up on his head and stood up tall in goal, keeping it 1-1. The Golden Eagles led the way in the third period with a pair of goals from Tyler Zahradka (Soph-Grand Forks Central (ND) with just one power play. Casey Kallock (Sr-East Grand Forks) actually scored the first. in third to give UMC the 2-1 lead they never gave up. Both teams will finish the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Crookston Sports Center. UMC is 1-0 while that the Jimmies are 1-3.
